Speaking

Hey, I’m Katherine Goldstein. I speak regularly to companies, non-profits, and conferences about community building and supporting caregivers at work.

I do in-person and virtual keynotes for any size audience, using research, reporting, and storytelling.

I base my talks on my experience as a journalist reporting on mothers, caregivers, and gender equity for The NYTimes, Harvard Business Review, TIME, WashPost, Vox, and more. I’m also a fellow at The Better Life Lab at New America, where my work focuses on social movements around caregiving and community building in America.

My signature talk is:

Our Job to Care: Bold Ideas and Concrete Solutions for Moms & Caregivers at Work

For decades, too many workplaces were stuck with antiquated ideas of who an “ideal worker” was that did not fit our diverse 21st-century workforce. As COVID broke the US’ already anemic care infrastructure, mothers, caregivers, and managers have realized that “back to normal” no longer works for anyone. Weaving personal narrative, research, and reporting, this talk provides a blueprint for how employees can effectively advocate for positive change at their organizations and will spark further discussions on creating a workplace that works better for everyone.

Additional Speaking Topics include:

Community Building in Workplaces: Did you know employees’ sense of belonging has a big impact on productivity, happiness, and retention? This talk will explore what it means to belong at work and offer concrete ways for employees and managers to build connection, foster shared experiences, and create the psychological safety everyone needs to thrive. No trust falls or awkward happy hours required!

Here’s what past clients have said about me:

"RTI International hosted Katherine for a two-part presentation in honor of Women's Equality Day. Her keynote presentation was universally well-received, with one attendee saying that "every slide and discussion point resonated" with them. She also attracted record turnout for the interactive workshop which followed one week later….. We loved having Katherine join us and would recommend her as a speaker to any organization ready to discuss the reality of being a caregiver in America -- and how to make it better!" - Monica Dongre, (RTI International)

I worked with Katherine on behalf of the Conference on Academic Library Management (CALM) as one of the conference's keynote speakers in 2024. Katherine was a dream to work with! She was communicative, responsive, and always open to feedback. She listened to my advice on our audience and engaging with them, which led to a well-attended, engaging, and thought-provoking keynote address. Katherine was open to feedback after the conference, too, which speaks to the level of care and intention she brings to her work. Without a doubt, I would work with Katherine again, and I would recommend her as a speaker to any event or organization interested in caregiving issues or adjacent work. – Maoria Kirker, (CALM)

Katherine is such a passionate and knowledgeable speaker about all things caregiving. She recently took part in a research launch for our company, and it was clear how much time she took to get to know the information, plan her messaging, and and incorporate her own connection to the mission of improving life for working caregivers. Katherine brings a true journalist's commitment to storytelling and uncovering truth, while also tapping into real life experiences and providing concrete solutions. I loved working with her and can't wait for the next time.– Jessica Pallay (Vivvi)

We were so incredibly pleased to have Katherine speak to our Caregivers ERG on the topic of caregivers at work and employer allyship. She followed the tone of our participants, provided a ton of meaningful data and insights and was able to resonate with so many in just an hour’s time! I had colleagues reaching out to me stating how they loved her energy & that they enjoyed the fireside chat focused on caregiving / parenting, despite not even falling into that category themself. We look forward to having her speak with our organization again sometime and sharing her newsletter and updates across our ERG – Jessica King (Paycor)

Katherine was invited to speak at one of our Moms at Work events. She was excellent! There is no one else I know who is able to speak to the intersection of motherhood and work as well… In our circles Katherine is a legend, a voice for working parents and I highly recommend her as a speaker, panelist, or expert on your project. -Allison Venditti (Moms at Work)
