Deep Casual Hosting Substack Live with Amanda Litman!
Join us Aug 14th at 12PM EST.
You never know what’s going to capture the zeitgeist on the internet. I’ve been surprised and pleased by how much my writing on “Deep Casual Hosting” has taken off, which is the idea that you go very casual on having people over to your house with a low bar for cooking and cleaning in order to do it more regularly and build deeper connections. Coining this term seems to have given people a framing for a kind of social life that feels missing and hard in our world of busy schedules and unrealistic Instagram hosting expectations. It’s now my most-read, commented, and shared post.
I definitely never expected to take the internet by storm by telling people to serve their friends Costco Chicken and pesto pasta with a few hours' notice. Similarly, Amanda Litman, the founder of Run for Something, an organization that brings newcomers into politics, and author of When We’re In Charge has also gotten lots of attention for her writing about her New Years Resolution experiment to host people every Saturday night for a year; this was part of her own effort to combat loneliness and build her social connections while also working and parenting two young kids. So join Substack’s two favorite hostesses without the mostest for a talk on hosting, connection, and why the “Deep Casual” movement’s moment seems to have come.

Is there a playback of this if we weren’t able to catch it in real time? Fascinated by both of your thoughts and experiments on this and would love to hear the conversation!
