I loved my conversation yesterday with Jo Piazza about her book, The Sicilian Inheritance. I particularly loved her answer about how to bring Sicily into our everyday lives this summer. When I asked it, I was expecting a pasta recipe or cocktail recommendation, but instead, she shared a whole vibe: long proper meals with friends. Meeting neighbors in parks and squares. Socializing outside. I love these ideas, and it makes some of the unhurried luxury of a European lifestyle feel actually accessible!
So Double Shifters, now it’s your turn: how are YOU bringing some (affordable) leisure into your life this summer? Cheese plate dinner picnics? Free screenings in your town’s park? Letting the kids stay up late to avoid bedtime battles? Pool parties? Non-stop summer tomatoes?
I look forward to hearing your ideas, and in the meantime, I’ll share my new favorite cocktail that’s simple to make (since I’m not much of a mixologist) and brings some real Italy vibes to my provincial life in North Carolina:
